A Review of Improvement of Interfacial Transition Zone and Adherent Mortar in Recycled Concrete Aggregate

An increasing amount of construction and demolishing waste has made the implementation recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) a popular topic; RCA can reduce environmental pollution caused by industry. This paper describes differences in physical, mechanical, chemical properties between natural (NA). For first time, methods interfacial transition zone (ITZ) improvement RCA, including strengthening through carbonation, incorporation mineral admixtures, different mixing approaches, are extensively covered. In addition, used to improve adherent mortar regions approach makes it possible demonstrate impact on these (ITZ adhered mortar) overall enhancement. Lastly, comparison each terms their effectiveness is presented. The review several studies concludes that carbonation treatment method for ITZ enhancement most efficient sustainable compared others. Summarizing, using instead NA provides solution industry due reducing produced conserving landfill space.
